DEVELOPMENT CASE
Developing a roller-assisted floor-lamp base
A base modification intended to support repositioning a metal-bodied office floor lamp.
An e-commerce business raised a handling issue with an office floor lamp: its weight made repositioning inconvenient. The development brief focused on a modification to the base.
Movement requirement
The original case describes a metal-bodied lamp and a request to improve how it could be moved. Appearance and practical use were considered alongside the movement requirement.
Base concept
The proposed modification added rollers at the end of the existing base. The described movement method involved tilting the lamp so that the rollers could support repositioning, rather than treating the entire base as a continuously rolling platform.
This is a description of the development concept, not an operating instruction for every floor lamp. The permitted movement, stability and instructions have to be confirmed for the selected design.
Engineering scope
This case records the handling brief and the roller-base concept. It does not claim a verified increase in sales, a measured reduction in effort or compatibility with every floor surface.
For a comparable request, provide the lamp configuration, the intended movement and the flooring. Base design, cable management, stability, handling and any relevant testing need to be agreed through engineering review.
