Selecting a lighting supplier
Compare suppliers against a shared product brief and a documented order scope.
A useful supplier comparison begins with the same requirements for every offer. Product fit, evidence, delivery and service should be reviewed together, rather than reducing the decision to a catalogue photograph or unit price.
Define the brief
Describe the lighting task, target market, installation conditions and requested quantities. Separate essential functions from optional features. Record whether the project needs a standard product, a configured variant or new development.
Provide a schedule of required drawings, photometric records and commercial documents. Ask each supplier to identify what is included, what requires further confirmation and what changes the price or delivery plan.
Identify samples
Request a sample with a model and configuration reference. Compare its construction, finish, light distribution and controls against the offer. Keep a written approval record and identify which documents apply to that sample.
Agree how production orders will be checked against the approved version. A similar appearance does not establish an identical driver, optical configuration or control function.
Review documents and rights
Check report and certificate references, issuing bodies, configurations and intended markets. Ask for clarification when a document covers a different model or revision. Verification should address the offered product, rather than treating every document as a supplier-wide guarantee.
For private-label or custom work, define responsibility for artwork, tooling, design rights and any permissions. Record these in the commercial agreement; do not infer rights from a picture or catalogue name.
Delivery and repeat orders
Confirm packaging, order quantities, delivery assumptions, payment terms, receiving checks and service responsibilities. Ask how changes to components or availability will be communicated. Keep configuration and packaging records for repeat orders.
Use the floor-lamp sourcing checklist for product-specific purchasing, or review OEM/ODM options. Send the agreed brief through Contact to discuss the supply scope.
