Lighting reception and guest work areas
Use separate task briefs for the reception counter and the guest-room desk.
Reception lighting and guest-room desk lighting serve different people and tasks. Plan them as distinct parts of a hospitality or office brief, while coordinating finishes, operation and maintenance across the property.
Reception counters
Record the counter layout, staff screens, documents and visitor-facing surfaces. Identify which light supports staff work, which provides general illumination and which highlights signs or architectural details.
Review the proposed arrangement from both sides of the counter. Check visible sources and reflections in glossy finishes or screens. Agree a room-based review with the designer rather than relying on a decorative fitting's appearance.
Guest-room work areas
Identify the desk area, chair position, socket locations and other room lighting. Review a lamp with typical reading, writing and screen tasks. Confirm mounting, usable surface space and cable management with the actual furniture.
Operation should be demonstrated in the sample review. Ask whether the light has a local switch, adjustment or other functions and record what is included. The desk-lamp guide provides detailed checks.
Sample and controls
Keep separate approval records for the counter and guest-room arrangements. Review brightness, source visibility and starting settings in representative spaces. Coordinate appearance without assuming the same product fits both tasks.
Test the offered controls and any reset behaviour. Additional features should have a clear purpose and confirmed configuration, rather than being inferred from a general smart-lighting description.
Maintenance and procurement
Agree cleaning instructions, service access, replacement arrangements and who maintains settings. Include these requirements with packaging, quantities and delivery scope. A lighting specification should not be presented as a guarantee of occupancy, repeat visits or sales.
See supplier selection for documentation questions and share the property layout and task brief to confirm supply scope.
